The Affective Jukebox is a system built in collaboration with Dr. Duncan Williams, from the BCMI-Midas project.

In 2014 we conducted a series of experiments demonstrating how our system selects music tracks based on the emotions detected in EEG of a user. We presented the results of this work at the 2014 International Conference on Computer Music in Athens, and this formed the foundation of my piece, The Space Between Us.

In 2015 we developed a new application, where the system composes its own emotionally charged music on-the-fly, based on the affective measures of a user’s EEG. This system was featured on Channel 5’s The Gadget Show in March 2015.

Wow! When your mum mentioned that you had pursued music in your career, I hadn’t imagined this. Exciting stuff. (Clark, nee Lyon)
