The Space Between Us is a live musical performance, with a twist. Instead of following a traditional paper score the performers read an electronic score on a computer screen, and the music this presents is generated by the emotions of the singer and an audience member.

Both the singer and the audience member are wired up to a brain-computer music interface system, which measures their brainwaves during the concert. The system looks for emotional indicators in the brainwaves and predicts their moods. It is their moods which control the musical score which is then played. The system monitors their mood throughout the performance and generates music to improve their mood, make their mood worse and attempts to bring their moods closer together.

Performed by the awesome Fiona Miller and Weiwei Jin, this video shows a performance of the piece in Berlin, 2014.
